Do It Yourself!
Sailing Canoe Plans or
Inflatable Sailboat Plans!
Your rig won't be as compact and lightweight as our readymade rigs, but it will sail as well, and you'll save money and have fun doing it.
Build it all yourself, or build as much as you want and get the rest from our parts catalog.
"Your plans where fantastic and we have had a blast with the rig. " -- Jack F. (January 2022"
"Hi, I just received the make-your-own-boat plans I ordered from you (wow, that was fast!) and they're great! I can't wait to get started on my boat...I'll be sure to pass the word on about your site to whoever is looking to sail. I think you got a good thing going here, keep up the good work!" -- Jim Seeber (March 2004)
"Outstanding plans! These are some of the most comprehensive plans I have seen! " - - Comment posted on Ebay Feedback for SailboatsToGo by plans buyer "Grantorinosport" [Click on the red words in the line above to read more feedback about us on the Ebay site. Ebay feedback is entirely out of our control, so you know it's not edited or biased .]
"Received the plans today. The cd video was superb. I could build the entire thing from that alone--I am rather handy. I was very impressed by the video. The plans were very cleverly thought out. Good job. I am anxious to begin building." -- Denny
Chirayus Tharechat writes from Thailand: "Hi there I have got the plan from you and I love it:)"
"You have done a very rich job of writing all your instructions. The detail is fantastic and the verbal illustrations ('this makes a sandwich with the tarp as the bread and the tape as the salami') along with the photo's make implementation of your designs very easy.
Thanks again for your help
Dan Everett"
Just finish making my canoe a sail boat thanks for the great plans. -- Sarah S. August 2010

Special Offer! Buy a sail or set of spars and get the plans for just the cost of mailing ($2.50). ("Spars" is sailor talk for the two poles that stiffen the bottom edge and foward edge of the sail)
See a video of SailboatsToGo do-it-yourself boats and ready-made boats at play: Click here.
Please note: We created the plans back in 2003. The essential information in them is still valid. However, we put extra information in there (links to useful websites, prices of parts and materials) and some of that is now out of date. People are still using the plans with great success, but we just wanted to disclose that we don't go back and update non-essential information information in them that may go stale. As always, satisfaction guaranteed!
Picture submitted by Sarah S. "I made a few material modifications..." she said.
'Well Thought- Out...'
Jim:
I have gotten a lot of mileage out of your plans - many weekends spend happily noodling about in the workshop. The whole thing ended up costing about $300.00, including the canoe.
Again, thanks for the well-thought-out plans. They have provided a lot of fun.
Sincerely,
Steve C. Sept. 2010

Gives you two eyes on the transom of your inflatable boat for accepting a rudder pin. Bolts to the motor mount fittings on the transom of many inflatable dinghies, including Intex, Sevylor, Navigator and Cheyenne boats. (Motor mount must not be installed). Our own design. You can mount a rudder to a motor mount instead, by adding eyebolts to it, but this is lighter and less bulky. Rudder not included. Please state type of boat in comment section of checkout. |

We've read them all (almost) and this is the best "How-To-Sail-For- Beginners" type book out there. It's the one used by the Annapolis Sailing School. It's got one female author and one male author, so both halves of our species were represented in its creation, which for a "how-to" book is a good thing. More info on content and another buying option: Learning to Sail: The Annapolis Sailing School Guide for Young Sailors of All Ages Jim Luckett says: "It's clear, well written, well illustrated, and correct." We do provide "How To Sail" instructions (written and illustrated by Jim himself) with our sail kits, plans, and sailboats, but if you like to have things explained 2 different ways to help make them stick, read this book too. Paperback.

Using about $135 worth of materials from a home center, lumber yard and/or hardware store you'll make your own sail rig for inflatable dinghy, including sail, with no sewing. This design takes up some space in the cockpit, unlike our readymade version, but still leaves room for 2 or 3 people aboard. We've gotten great feedback on these plans. Any part you don't want to make, you can buy from us. Build as much or as little of it as you like! Not for kayaks. |

Step-by-step profusely illustrated guide to making your own clamp-on canoe sail rig from lumber and hardware you can buy locally. For more detail, buy the version that includes how-to-build-it video, also sold on this page. The sail rig you will build with these plans is not the same as our ready-made sail rig. It is designed for ease of construction with simple tools and basic skills. Many parts are wood. It will sail as well, but it is not as portable and it takes up more space on your boat. Be ready for really light winds with this giant sail. You'll have it mounted on spars already, so the switch from your existing sail will be fast. Mast slide included (see item 4992 for lower price without mast slide or item 4990 for sail only). This sail is like our 55 SF sail except the boom is also extended, like the top spar. Heavy duty mast recommended, as with the 55 SF sail. We would not use this sail above 12 mph winds. Best under 10. Terrific value pricing. Color: 2-tone blue (sail B) only. Although we say this is for light winds, at least one of our customers has ignored this limitation with no ill results.
The following was posted to the Snark Sailboat Owners Yahoo group by TCraig: "Just went sailing today with my Snark Sunflower with the 66 sq.ft. sail. The wind was gusting to 23mph and the Sunflower was tearing along at 4.5 mph for 2 miles per my Iphone gps app. I think that would be a top speed for the Sunflower. I had to really hike out to keep from capsizing and the mast was bending like crazy with the gusts but the mast was ok in the end. I mention this in case anyone is considering upgrading to the large 66 sq ft sail from the 55 sq ft sail. Be prepared for some energetic sailing!"

Be ready for really light winds with this giant sail. You'll have it mounted on spars already, so the switch from your existing sail will be fast. Just move the mast slide over to this spar set and you're good to go. Or, buy a second mast slide($30) too. This sail is like our 55 SF sail except the boom is also extended, like the top spar. Heavy duty mast recommended, as with the 55 SF sail. We would not use this sail above 12 mph winds. Best under 10. Terrific value pricing. Color: 2-tone blue (sail B) only.

All 3 items on one "buy now" button for ease of ordering, with free shipping. This is the 45 SF size; if you want 55SF order item 5169 instead. Includes the innovate "mast slide" which is the fitting that connects boom to mast and allows it to swivel. The spars (sailor talk for the boom and the other long tube at the front of the sail) and the mast fold for easy shipping and easy storage and transporting. These are parts, not a complete sail kit. See one of our sail kit pages (dinghy kit, canoe kit or kayak kit), accessed with products menu above, for complete sail kits. Available sail color schemes shown here.

This is the sail only (no spars or other metal parts). Multi-colored. This is a true, aerodynamic, shaped sail, which means it is cut and sewn to have the necessary camber (3-dimensional curvature) for creating aerodynamic lift. Superior in power and efficiency to "flat triangle" sails offered elsewhere. Strong fabric and strong sewing, so it will last. Small SeaEagle.com logo at lower front edge. Ships by USPS so PO boxes are okay and please ignore any warnings to the contrary during checkout process. More Info and other sail choices |

Segmented (3 sections each) and shock-corded inside, so they folds to 45 inches, but the parts stay together. You fold it with the sail still on the spars, for fast setup and take down. Fits our rigs, Sea Eagle, SOAR too. Add item 5160(spar extension) to fit Sunflower or our rigs with 55 SF sail. Mast slide is on pivot, so sail can be furled and stored vertically against the mast, held up by the halyard, without taking the mast slide loose from the mast. Spars are aluminum, for light weight and strength. Includes all necessary fittings and hardware. If you get a second sail, we recommend a second spar set to save time changing sails. It saves at least 20 minutes each time.

This price is only for substitution. Choose sail colors: Click Here If you are not ordering something that normally includes a 45 sf sail, you must use item 5012 instead for this item. A cell phone in a waterproof bag could be the most important piece of safety equipment on your boat. Some phones can be operated through the bag and sound travels through the bag just fine.
Bring a GPS along and clock your speed, chart your heading and bearing, and measure your upwind sailing ability. Put your car keys in it too. A small camera will fit. Floats empty and tends to trap enough air around objects inside so that it would float loaded. If you're worried about that put a few ping pong balls in to bulk it up.
Has place where you can attach strap or line to secure it to the boat. MORE INFO CLICK HERE

7-foot flat blade oar with aluminum shaft that slides apart and together in the middle for easy transport and storage on land and in the boat. Stainless steel spring button locks the 2 halves together. Rubber grip. Strong oar, not a toy. Go ahead and put your back into rowing -- it won't fail. Shaft is 1 1/8" diameter. It will fit through the oarlocks of most inflatable boats (take apart in middle to fit through oarlock). You can purchase oar together with metal clamp-on oarlock at item 5031. Get two oars and you can join the two blade section together to make a double-bladed kayak paddle (see item 5175 for joining sleeve). This makes a great steering oar for sailing too. Heavy duty drawstring bag measures 12' 8" long and about 6 inches in diameter (9 inches wide if empty and flat). Fits our spars, sail and mast without folding them. Click Here for Photos. Fits spars, sail and mast of Super Snark or Sunflower. Protects the sail from flapping and shredding itself when car-topping. Keeps all these vital parts together in your garage or basement so they don't get lost or forgotten between sailing excursions. Protects sail from sun, wind and rain when stored or transported outside. If you have our folding spars and mast, you don't absolutely need a full length bag like this, but it's a nice option to save the time of folding and unfolding. Bag carries 10 year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Sent by US Mail so please give a postal shipping address for this item. |

Complete rudder with sturdy clamp-on mount that allows up-down and tilt adjustment. Kick-up blade allows beaching and protects against damage from underwater objects. Use on square-back canoe, rowboat, fishing boat, inflatable transom boat (Zodiac and similar). Even mount on side of canoe using a canoe motor mount. Clamps to transom or motor mount just like a trolling motor. Launch Video Click Here See item 7008 if you want to substitute this rudder for a non-clamp-on rudder in a sail kit you are ordering. Optional push-pull tiller system. If conventional swing tiller is a problem in your installation, add our Tiller Turner option. This offsets the tiller motion to the side and converts your arm motion to push-pull instead of side to side. For example, mount rudder beside a motor, and tip up one or the other, depending on which you are using. The swinging tiller might hit the tipped-up motor, but the push-pull Tiller Turner will solve that problem. See: Item 2017 Tiller Turner for more info on this option.
